The pinhole camera model describes the mathematical relationship between the coordinates of a point in three-dimensional space and its projection onto the image plane of an ideal pinhole camera, where the camera aperture is described as a point and no lenses are used to focus light.

About

A pinhole is, literally, a very small hole, like one punched in paper with a pin. A camera that takes pictures by receiving the light coming in through a pinhole is called a pinhole camera. It is also commonly called a 'needle-hole camera'. The pinhole camera model is useful for observing the structure by which light reflected from an object passes through the crystalline lens of our eye (or a camera's lens) and reaches the retina (or a camera's sensor).

The principle of a pinhole camera is as follows. When light reflects off a point on an object in the three-dimensional real world, among the rays at various angles only the ray heading toward the pinhole passes through without being blocked by the pinhole plane. As a result, this ray forms an image on what is called the image plane or the projective plane. The size of this image is determined by the pinhole camera's focal length. For an ideal pinhole camera, the focal length is the distance from the pinhole to the image plane.
