About

The decimal digits of pi are strongly conjectured to be a normal number, in which every digit appears with equal frequency in any base.

It has been proven that a normal number is a disjunctive sequence, containing every possible combination of digits.

In other words, every computer program expressed in binary exists somewhere in the decimal digits of pi. If you just find the position in the digits of pi, you can store and restore any information.

Storing a 400-line text file reportedly takes about 5 minutes, but the author says you just need to trust Moore's law...

Computing decimal digits starting from a specific position rather than the first digit is called a spigot algorithm; pifs reportedly uses the Bailey-Borwein-Plouffe formula to compute the digits of pi.
