Photography (Korean: sajinsul, 寫眞術) is the process of recording images by capturing light onto a light-sensitive medium such as film or a solid-state image sensor.
The English word "photography" comes from Greek. The word 'φώς' (phos), meaning "light", combined with 'γραφίς' (graphis), meaning "pen" or "brush", or 'γραφή' (graphê), meaning "an image (像) made of lines" or "drawing", together form the meaning "drawing with light."
The Korean word "sajinsul" came about because "photography" was conveyed as 'sajin (寫眞)', in the sense of sketching (寫生) the form of things and copying the facts exactly as they are, and it settled into the terms 'sajinsul' and 'sajin'.
