A modern X server written from scratch in Zig
About
- Phoenix is a new X server written from scratch in the Zig language without forking the existing Xorg, aiming to be a modern alternative
- Currently, simple applications using GLX, EGL, or Vulkan graphics can run nested inside an existing X server; standalone operation is not yet supported
- For simplicity, it supports only applications written within the last 20 years and hardware from the last 15 years, and works without a server driver interface
- Strengthened security: protocol messages are parsed automatically, and access between applications is restricted by an isolation model based on permission requests
- Supports modern technologies such as HDR, VRR, multiple monitors, and a built-in compositor, with Wayland compatibility and X11 protocol extensions also planned
