Perl

Perl is a scripting programming language whose syntax is similar to the C language and which includes many popular Unix features such as sed, awk, and tr. Perl is an interpreted language that can be compiled, just before execution, into C or into bytecode applicable to various platforms. Once compiled, a Perl program is almost as fast as a precompiled C program. Because Perl has excellent text processing features, it is mainly used to develop CGI programs. Perl was created by Larry Wall.
In general, Perl is easier to learn and faster to code in than the more structured C or C++ languages. However, Perl programs can become very complex. To reduce compile time and make CGI scripts run faster, plugins that keep Perl resident in memory can be installed on some servers such as Apache.
