Pattern recognition is one of the problems belonging to the fields of cognitive science and artificial intelligence. Cognitive science is a comprehensive interdisciplinary science that deals with the problems of intelligence and cognition using psychology, computer science, artificial intelligence, neurobiology, linguistics, and philosophy. Artificial intelligence is the technology of artificially modeling human learning and reasoning abilities and implementing in computer programs the ability to perceive external objects, and further, the ability to understand even syntactic patterns such as natural language.
Research on artificial intelligence is now advancing into the field of information systems based on artificial intelligence, called intelligent systems (Intelligence System). Intelligent systems are applied not only to properly processing the vast amounts of data easily obtained in the information age, but also to the representation and processing of information, and they are widely used even in non-IT sectors such as finance, manufacturing, sports, and services.
Pattern recognition mainly uses an engineering approach to deal with the problem of recognizing sensed objects, which is a practical implementation problem of artificial intelligence. Pattern recognition can be defined in many ways, but here it is defined as "a field of artificial intelligence that deals with the problem of a computable mechanical device (a computer) recognizing some object."
