Pango is a text (e.g. typeface) layout engine library that works with the HarfBuzz shaping engine to display multilingual text.
When Pango is used with platform APIs or third-party libraries (e.g. Uniscribe, FreeType) as text rendering backends, it achieves full-featured text rendering and cross-platform support. Text processed by Pango looks similar across different operating systems.
Pango is a special-purpose library for text, not a general-purpose graphics rendering library like Cairo.
