A painter (畵家) is the general term for a person who creates paintings. There are many types of painters depending on painting style, art materials, working style, and so on. The community formed by painters is called hwadan (畵壇, the art world). An honorific term for a painter is hwabaek (畵伯), and a derogatory term is hwanjaengi. Painters use paints, ink, brushes, and the like to create works of art such as landscapes, still lifes, and abstract paintings. Sometimes other people sell the paintings they have painted.
