How to install

Arch Linux

$ sudo pacman -S jdk-openjdk

Manual download

See the Archived OpenJDK GA Releases page

Installation path

  • macOS: /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/adoptopenjdk-8.jdk/Contents/Home/bin/java

How to remove

On some Linux packages (Fedora, Ubuntu), the automatically installed OpenJDK does not work properly (most notably the Android ICS build conflict issue). This section therefore describes two ways to work around the problem.

Removing OpenJDK

First, find the installed OpenJDK. You can search for it with the command below.

sudo rpm -qa | grep jdk

Then remove the packages containing openjdk one by one with the yum command.

sudo yum remove java-1.6.0.-openjdk-javadoc

Changing JDK priority

You can change the priority of the installed OpenJDK, SunJDK, etc. without removing them. Enter the command below to change the priority.

sudo update-alternatives --config jar
