ns (short for Network Simulator; the widely used version today is ns-2) is a discrete event network simulator. Because it is open-source software, it is highly extensible and has abundant online documentation. It is very actively used for simulations involving routing and multicast protocols. It is also used in ad hoc network research. Ns supports many well-known existing protocols. It supports both wireless and wired networks. ns can also be used as a network emulator with somewhat limited functionality.
Ns is licensed under the GNU General Public License version 2.
