Vim is a text editor that has been loved by countless software developers since it first appeared in 1991. Neovim is the next generation of Vim.
The software development ecosystem has seen tremendous growth and innovation over the past 23 years. Neovim founder Thiago de Arruda named modern features and development speed as Vim's shortcomings. The Neovim community seeks technical innovation and progress while preserving Vim's signature features as they are. Early on, Arruda was able to focus on the work for 6 months through crowdfunding. Arruda credited the community for supporting the Neovim project and encouraging him to keep working on it.
