Navigation is the process of monitoring and controlling the movement of a craft or vehicle from one place to another. The navigation application programming interface standard of ISO (International Standard Organization), the international standards body (IS 17267: Intelligent Transport System (ITS) Navigation System Application Programming Interface (API), November 2009), defines six core navigation functions as follows.
- Positioning function (Postitioning).
- Route planning function (Route Planning).
- Route guidance function (Route Guidence).
- Map display function (Map Display).
- Address search function (Address Location).
- Service and point-of-interest search function (Service and POS).
