Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) evolved from the text-centric Short Message Service (SMS) and is a way of creating and sending multimedia messages such as photos, sounds, and videos. Since it is built into most mobile phones with a camera or MP3 player, this service usually makes it easy to take a photo and send it as a message.
The standard for it is developed by the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA), but during development it was part of 3GPP and the WAP group. In South Korea, every carrier offers the service under a different name. For example, the service names differ by carrier: KT calls it 'Multimail', SK Telecom 'Color Mail', and LG U+ 'Shot Mail'.
