Monitoring direction
- Active Monitoring
- Target server → collection server
- In this case, a small program such as an agent is usually installed on the target server to collect metrics.
- Alternatively, the metric information can be sent as a Request directly to the collection server.
- Passive Monitoring
- Collection server → target server
- In this case, the server sends Requests directly to the target server. (So the work is mainly editing the collection server's Configuration file.)
