Running Moltbot (formerly Clawdbot) on Cloudflare Workers

About

  • Moltbot ran on local hardware, but Moltworker moves it to the cloud so it can be operated without dedicated equipment
  • Combines an entrypoint Worker and a Sandbox container to run Moltbot on Cloudflare infrastructure
    • Handles API routing and acts as a proxy, protected by Cloudflare Access
    • Uses R2 to store persistent data such as sessions, conversations, and assets
  • Provides a fully managed, always-on deployment environment in Cloudflare Sandbox containers
    • Data persistence through R2 Storage
    • Settings and conversation history can be restored even when the container restarts
  • Management functions such as device approval, backups, and gateway restarts through the admin UI (/_admin/)
    • Protected by Cloudflare Access authentication
    • Shows R2 backup status and offers manual sync (cron every 5 minutes)
  • Requirements
    • Requires a Cloudflare Workers Paid Plan and an Anthropic API Key; unified billing through AI Gateway is also supported
    • Integrates with free-tier features such as Cloudflare Access, Browser Rendering, AI Gateway, and R2 Storage
  • The authentication scheme has 3 layers
    • Cloudflare Access protects the admin paths
    • A Gateway Token controls access to the control UI
    • A device pairing approval process authenticates individual devices
  • Process, log, and version information can be queried through the debug endpoints (/debug/*)
  • Built-in browser automation (CDP) :performs automation tasks such as screenshots, web testing, and video generation
  • Includes a built-in skill (cloudflare-browser) : provides scripts such as screenshot.js, video.js, and cdp-client.js
  • With Cloudflare AI Gateway integration, API requests can be cached, rate-limited, analyzed, and cost-tracked
  • Moltbot is an AI assistant built on a gateway architecture that connects multiple chat platforms
