modprobe is a Linux program used to add a Korean: 적재 가능 커널 모듈 (LKM) to the Linux kernel or to remove one from the kernel.
It is usually used indirectly: udev relies on modprobe to load drivers for automatically detected hardware.
Since 2014, modprobe has been distributed as part of the software package "kmod". It was previously developed as:
- "module-init-tools" for Linux kernel version 2.6 and later
- "modutils" used in Linux versions 2.2.x and 2.4.x
