Microsoft Office is a suite of office software for Windows and Mac developed by Microsoft. It was first developed for Mac in 1989 and for Windows in 1990.

Examples of some versions include Microsoft Office 2007 for Windows, released on January 30, 2007 alongside Windows Vista, and Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac, released on January 15, 2008. These versions use a new interface and the Office Open XML formats (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx, etc.). By installing the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack, these documents could also be viewed and edited in Office 2000–Office 2003 for Windows and Office 2004 for Mac. Since then, new versions have been released along with service packs, and Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are built into most Office editions by default.
