A microprocessor (microprocessing unit), or ultra-small arithmetic processing unit, refers to the central processing unit (CPU) of a computer. It is a logic circuit that, in order to execute machine code, divides the execution process into steps, writes microcode for processing them, and processes them step by step according to this microcode. Early microprocessors were made as a single chip, but there is a growing tendency to integrate other hardware elements as well. Hence the term CPU core is used to distinguish it from the other elements. Whereas central processing unit (CPU) is a term that comes from its position and role in the overall computer system, microprocessor is a term that comes from how it operates; the two refer to the same thing.
