The Memory Pool System (MPS) is a flexible, modular memory management system built by Harlequin to support its ScriptWorks PostScript RIP, the Harlequin Dylan compiler, and the Dylan programming language. It was designed to meet a wide range of demands for fast memory management and to support complex garbage collection over a great variety of kinds of references.

Some time later, in 1998, Harlefquin's financial crisis led it to sell the MPS, together with the Memory Management Reference[1], to Ravenbrook Limited, a small Cambridge-based consultancy. In 2002, Ravenbrook released the MPS as open source.
