List of mathematical symbols with their meanings and pronunciations.

Mathematics Symbol List

Overview

A page collecting the abbreviations and symbols used in mathematics. Mathematical proofs use many symbols, so if you do not know what the symbols mean, you cannot understand the proofs. Conversely, without symbols a proof can become needlessly long or ambiguous. The problem is that the same symbol can have different meanings depending on the field of mathematics, so it becomes important to know all the meanings of a symbol, and to know them precisely. Of course, different symbols can also have the same meaning. In addition, certain constants are very often always written with the same symbol, which makes understanding the symbols even more important.
