A simple DNS service for Windows that can be used for service testing

About

When you need to test a service that uses a domain that isn't registered yet, or need to use the same domain as the production site but connect to a test server, a PC web browser only needs the hosts file configured, but an iPhone app requires an internal network DNS server.

There's an open-source DNS service that can be set up easily on a Windows PC, and I've been using it well recently.

Any domain address can be set to any IP

  • ip4["maradns.foo."] = "10.10.10.10"
  • Other existing domain addresses can also be set to resolve to a different IP.

Other domains can be queried against a normal DNS server to get the results

  • upstream_servers["."]="8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4"

Runs in daemon mode by default, but can also be run with normal user permissions for debugging.

  • For a quick test, just run the process with normal user permissions; if an error occurs, you must run it with normal user permissions to see the error log.

Supports only UDP by default (Cygwin is required to use TCP)
