Functions for Transforming Text

$(wildcard pattern) - The pattern parameter is a file name pattern, typically containing wildcard characters (the same as shell file name patterns). The result of the wildcard function is a space-separated list of the names of existing files that match the pattern.

$(patsubst pattern,replacement,text) - Finds the whitespace-separated words in text that match pattern and replaces them with replacement. Here pattern may contain a '%' acting as a wildcard, which matches any number of any characters within a word.
