A locale (locale [loukǽl] / [loukάːl]) is a set of parameters that specifies the user's language, country, and any preferences the user wants to see in the user interface. Usually a locale identifier consists of at least a language identifier and a region identifier.
Define
Locale identifiers are defined in several ways: On Unix, Linux, and POSIX-style platforms, they are defined similarly to the RFC 3066 definition, but locale variant modifiers are defined differently and the charset is included as part of the identifier. They are defined in the following format.
Checking the locale list
locale -a shows the locale information available on the operating system.
