Litestream VFS is a plugin-style extension that lets you read and query SQLite databases directly from object storage (S3, etc.)
About
- Can run queries and point-in-time recovery (PITR) immediately from remote backup files without downloading the entire database
- Internally uses the LTX format to manage sets of changed pages efficiently, and improves recovery speed with compaction that skips duplicate pages
- Uses SQLite's VFS interface to intercept only read operations, while writes are handled by the existing Litestream process
- Provides near-real-time replicas through per-second backups and index updates, supporting fast query execution in cloud environments
