Laser radar (Light Detection And Ranging, LIDAR, lidar) is a radar system that fires laser pulses and measures the time it takes for them to reflect back, in order to measure the position coordinates of the reflector. It is mounted on aircraft or satellites for terrain surveying, and is also used in speed guns, autonomous mobile robots, self-driving cars and more; the system is drawing a lot of attention.
