LZMA (Lempel–Ziv–Markov chain algorithm) is an algorithm used for data compression. It has been under development since 1998 and is used in the 7z format of the 7-zip archiver. The algorithm uses a dictionary compression scheme somewhat similar to LZ77, generally provides a higher compression ratio than bzip2, and offers a variable compression dictionary size of up to 4 GiB.
xz format
xz is a lossless data compression program and a file format for the LZMA2 compression algorithm. XZ can be considered a stripped-down version of the 7-Zip program.
