Ultra-lightweight, single-node Kubernetes optimized for IoT and edge

Features

  • Ultra-lightweight, single-node Kubernetes distribution for resource-constrained environments such as IoT, embedded, and edge devices
  • Installed and operated as a single binary with all major components built in. Minimal external dependencies
    • Uses SQLite instead of etcd as the default storage via Kine
    • All essential components, such as containerd & runc as the container runtime and CoreDNS for DNS, are packaged into a single launcher
  • Lock-free, multi-process architecture that integrates various components within a single process
  • Removes the Kubernetes Scheduler and replaces it with a custom Webhook NodeSetter
  • Offline operation support: all features are available without an internet connection
  • Differences from other Kubernetes distributions
    • Unlike distributed/lightweight distributions for the FOG layer such as K3s and MicroK8s, KubeSolo focuses on edge devices
    • No cluster features, no etcd, supports only single-node operation
    • All deployments, patches, and releases quickly follow upstream as a fork based on K3s
  • Runs on all Linux distributions (ARM, ARM64, x86_64)
