Keyboard instruments (鍵盤樂器; North Korean standard language: nureugae-akgi) are a group of instruments that produce sound when keys are struck. They include instruments that sound by striking strings like the piano, by plucking strings like the harpsichord, and by blowing air into pipes like the pipe organ. They are sometimes classified separately according to these different ways of producing sound, but are usually classified as an independent group of instruments, ‘keyboard instruments’.
They are characterized by a wide range. Also, since all fingers of both hands can be used freely, a wide variety of expression is possible.
