Key signature

In Korean: 기보법 (musical notation), a key signature refers to the flats or sharps placed on the staff between the clef and the time signature. Unlike accidentals, it is used to indicate notes that are persistently a semitone lower or higher than the natural note, and a key signature is sometimes also used after a double bar line.

Key signatures are used where attaching accidentals before every note of the given pitch would make things complicated, and each major and minor scale is formed according to the use of flats and sharps.
