A framework for Local-Fist apps

Features

  • Build an entire app with client-side code only
    • No need to deploy a database, design SQL schemas, set up relations, or write queries
    • If you know TypeScript, you can develop and deploy apps with Jazz
  • Data is stored locally first, then synced to the server
    • Works smoothly even with an unstable internet connection or offline, and data syncs automatically when the connection is restored
    • UI updates instantly just by changing data, without API calls
    • All devices on the same account always stay in sync
    • Multiplayer setups can be built simply by sharing data. Implementing UI that shows user presence (e.g. cursor display) is also easy
  • Built-in role-based permission management for secure collaboration
    • Role-based permissions are set by default when data is created
      • Permission types: read (reader), write (writer), administrator (admin)
    • Permissions are managed through an Account or Group
  • Features apps need are built in
    • File upload
    • Progressive image loading
    • Server Workers
    • Authentication: Passkey (Touch ID, Face ID), Clerk, Auth0, Okta, NextAuth
    • Jazz Cloud: real-time sync and storage infrastructure that can scale Jazz apps to millions of users
  • Compatible stacks: Vanilla JS, React, React Native, Vue, Svelte, Node.js
    • Swift, Rust, and Kotlin support planned
  • Additional features coming soon
    • Cursors and carets: UI for showing users during collaboration
      • 2D canvas cursors
      • Text carets
      • Element-based focus indicators
      • Overscroll state and position helpers
    • Two-way database sync
      • Jazz can be added to existing apps:
      • Supports Prisma, Drizzle, PostgreSQL, etc.
    • Video and voice support
      • Automatic WebRTC connections between group members
      • Voice/video streaming and recording
    • CoPlainText and CoRichText
      • Collaborative plain text and rich text support
      • Prevents most editing conflicts
      • Can render to various formats such as Markdown, HTML, and JSX
