JAVA OpenGL (JOGL) is a JAVA Programming Language made to allow the OpenGL reference library to be used from Java. It was originally developed by Kenneth Bradley Russell and Christopher John Kline, and further developed by the Sun Microsystems Game Technology Group. Since 2010 it has been an independent open-source project under the BSD license. The reference implementation for Java Bindings for OpenGL (JSR-231).

Through the Java Native Interface (JNI), JOGL can use most of the OpenGL features of the C language. JOGL gives access to both the standard GL* and GLU* functions, but window system calls from the OpenGL Utility Toolkit (GLUT) library are not available. For example, Java has its own window system, so the Abstract Window Toolkit (AWT), Swing, or SWT extensions are used instead.
