Iperf is a network performance measurement and tuning tool. It is a cross-platform tool and can produce standardized performance measurements for any network.
Iperf has client and server functionality and can create data streams to measure the end-to-end throughput in one or both directions.
Example
How to check TCP data upload and download speeds.
Run the following on the server PC
Then run the following on the client PC (of course, use the server's address as the IP address)
When the connection succeeds and the test finishes, the server outputs:
------------------------------------------------------------
Server listening on TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 128 KByte (default)
------------------------------------------------------------
[ 1] local 192.168.0.95 port 5001 connected with 192.168.0.250 port 36640
[ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth
[ 1] 0.0000-10.0898 sec 440 MBytes 366 Mbits/sec
The client outputs:
------------------------------------------------------------
Client connecting to 192.168.0.95, TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 255 KByte (default)
------------------------------------------------------------
[ 3] local 192.168.0.250 port 36640 connected with 192.168.0.95 port 5001
[ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth
[ 3] 0.0-10.0 sec 440 MBytes 368 Mbits/sec
