IR (Investor Relations) refers to activities that explain and promote a company to investors in order to facilitate attracting investment. Shareholders' meetings, attracting investment, distributing press releases, and press conferences are typical IR activities. IR is usually handled by a department reporting directly to the CFO.
Translated literally into Korean, IR would be 'tujaja gwangye' (investor relations), but this word is not used; it is usually translated as 'gieop seolmyeong hwaldong' (corporate explanation activities). In general, the word IR is simply used as is.
The IR staff member who deals with ordinary investors is called 'jusik damdang' (person in charge of shares). 'Jusik damdang' is the official title shown in the company information section of listed companies. In the investment industry, it is often shortened to 'judam'.
