Internet protocol suite

The Internet Protocol Suite is the set of communication protocols used by computers to exchange information with each other on the Internet. Because TCP and IP are the most widely used in the Internet protocol suite, it is also called the TCP/IP protocol suite.

OSI Model vs Internet protocol suite

The two models are related but do not fit each other perfectly. The biggest difference is the number of layers. The Internet protocol suite uses four layers, or five layers (if the link layer is split into the physical layer and the data link layer), whereas the OSI model uses seven layers.

The OSI model fits better when describing SSL or TLS. Usually SSL or TLS is used as a session layer protocol that sits above TCP and below applications such as HTTP, SFTP, and others running over stunnel or VPN.
