The Internet of Things (IoT) is a technology that embeds sensors and communication functions in various things and connects them to the internet. In other words, it means technology that connects various things through wireless communication. Here, things are various embedded systems such as home appliances, mobile equipment, and wearable devices. Things connected to the Internet of Things must connect to the internet with a unique IP that identifies them, and may embed sensors to acquire data from the external environment. Since every thing can become a target of viruses and hacking, the development of the Internet of Things and the development of security inevitably go hand in hand.
According to Gartner, an information technology research and advisory firm, the number of things using Internet of Things technology was about 900 million as of 2009, but this number is expected to reach 26 billion by 2020. When this many things are connected, vast amounts of data are gathered through the internet, so vast that they are hard to analyze with existing technology. This is called big data. Accordingly, with the emergence of the Internet of Things, the need for technology to develop efficient algorithms for analyzing big data is also rising.
According to a study by Cisco Systems, the Internet of Things is expected to have an economic value of 14.4 trillion dollars over the 10 years from 2013 to 2022
