The Internet (also nurimang; North Korean standard: interneteu) is an international computer network called "the sea of information", a public computer network in which computers around the world are connected to one another and exchange information using the TCP/IP communication protocol. It is short for the technical term internetworking. The popular World Wide Web is used together with the Hypertext Protocol (HTTP), and web browsers for viewing web pages written in the hypertext protocol include Microsoft's Internet Explorer and the Mozilla Foundation's Mozilla Firefox.

The Internet originated in the 1960s–1970s as a research network of the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) under the U.S. Department of Defense, and the military network developed into MILNET. At the height of the Cold War, the Advanced Research Projects Agency of the U.S. Department of Defense researched a network that could survive even situations such as nuclear war. The research found that the packet switching method was much more robust and survivable than the existing circuit switching method. The first interconnection between two nodes was made between UCLA and the SRI institute on October 29, 1969. This network was called ARPANET, and it is the origin of today's Internet.

The starting point of today's TCP/IP-based network was January 1, 1983, when ARPANET stopped transmitting NCP packets.

Separately from ARPANET, in 1986 the National Science Foundation connected five supercomputer centers to create NSFnet. By the end of the 1980s, as ARPANET was absorbed and merged into it, it developed into an international communication network connecting universities, research institutes, government agencies, companies, and other places all over the world.

When commercial use of the Internet was allowed and Mosaic was released in 1993 as a browser that made the Internet more convenient to use, the number of users grew explosively. Currently, about 5,000 computer networks and more than 9 million host computers in 146 countries around the world are connected.

DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN

For reference, to check whether a domain resolves correctly, test it with nslookup. The fixes are as follows.

  1. Turn IPv6 OFF.
  2. If the DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN error occurs, try setting the DNS address manually. Try Google DNS, 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
