Hyper-threading (Hyper-Threading Technology, Hyper-threading, HT Technology; hereafter HTT) is Intel's implementation of simultaneous multithreading. It aims to improve performance by assigning two virtual execution units (virtual or logical cores) to one physical execution unit. Since two threads are added per core, the operating system recognizes a single core (1) as a dual core (2), a dual core (2) as a quad core (4), a triple core (3) as a hexa (6) core, a quad core (4) as an octa core (8), a hexa (6) core as a dodeca (12) core, and an octa core (8) as a hexadecimal core (16).

A high-level illustration of HTT. Instructions are fetched from RAM (differently colored boxes represent the instructions of four different programs), decoded and reordered by the front end (white boxes represent pipeline bubbles), and then passed to an execution core that can execute instructions from two different programs during the same clock cycle.
In other words, it is different from time-sharing!! From time-sharing!!
