In electronics, a hardware description language is a computer language used to precisely describe electronic circuits. It is often abbreviated as HDL. It can describe the desired behavior of a circuit or the desired circuit structure, and it can also verify through simulation that the circuit works correctly. Unlike software programming languages, the syntax and semantics of an HDL explicitly include notations that can express time and concurrency, which are key characteristics of hardware.
