The Greek alphabet (Greek: Ελληνικό αλφάβητο), also called huirap munja (希臘文字) in Korean, is the alphabet used to write the Greek language. It is the oldest alphabet with separate letters for consonants and vowels, and the English word "alphabet", meaning such a script, comes from alpha and beta, the first two letters of the Greek alphabet. It developed around the 9th century BC and is still used to write Greek today. It is also used for various other purposes, such as Greek numerals, many mathematical symbols including pi, the names of many particles in physics, and the names of stars.
