Grammar is the study of the rules governing the use of a language. The set of rules for a particular language is also called the grammar of that language. Thus, each language can be said to have its own grammar. Grammar is a part of linguistics, the comprehensive study of language, and is also called malbon in Korean.
Subfields of linguistics include phonetics, phonology, semantics, morphology, syntax, and pragmatics, and grammar covers all of them. Outside linguistics, grammar generally tends to mean syntax or prescriptive grammar.
