GitOps uses Git repositories as a single source of truth to deliver infrastructure as code (IaC). IaC manages and provisions infrastructure through code rather than manual processes. With IaC, configuration files are created that contain infrastructure specifications and can provision the same environment every time. IaC is an important part of DevOps practices and of implementing continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD).
In GitOps, the desired system state must be described declaratively. Using declarative tools, all configuration files and source code can be version-controlled in Git. Because every change to the code is tracked, updates are easy to perform, and version control is available when a rollback is needed.
