GitHub Load Balancer Director

The GitHub Load Balancer (GLB) Director is a set of components that provide a scalable set of stateless Layer 4 load balancer servers capable of line rate packet processing in bare metal datacenter environments, and is used in production to serve all traffic from GitHub's datacenters.

Features

GLB has the following features.

• A load balancer operating at the L4 layer
• Can scale out horizontally in a stable way
• Stateless design that separates L4/L7
• Developed with DPDK for fast packet processing
• Not a replacement for HAProxy or NGINX; it processes packets in front of them
