GitHub (/'ɡɪtˌhʌb/) is a web-based hosting service that supports projects using Git. It is written in Ruby on Rails. GitHub offers both commercial services and free services for open source. According to a 2009 survey of Git users, GitHub is the most popular Git hosting site. A 2011 survey also named it the most popular open source code repository.

GitHub runs a pastebin-like service and a wiki for each repository, which can be edited through a Git repository.

Since January 2010, GitHub has been operated under the name GitHub, Inc.

Troubleshooting

Password authentication is temporarily disabled as part of a brownout. Please use a personal access token instead

remote: Password authentication is temporarily disabled as part of a brownout. Please use a personal access token instead.
remote: Please see https://github.blog/2020-07-30-token-authentication-requirements-for-api-and-git-operations/ for more information.
fatal: unable to access 'https://github.com/group/project/': The requested URL returned error: 403

Go to Github 로그인 > Settings > Developer > Personal access token, click Generate new token to create a token, and log in with that token instead of your password.

For reference, for ordinary git source control (clone, push, etc.), you only need to add the repo item under Select scopes.

refusing to allow a Personal Access Token to create or update workflow .github/workflows/python-deploy.yml without workflow scope

! [remote rejected] master -> master (refusing to allow a Personal Access Token to create or update workflow `.github/workflows/python-deploy.yml` without `workflow` scope)
error: failed to push some refs to 'https://github.com/yourname/project.git'

Go to Github 로그인 > Settings > Developer > Personal access token and add the workflow item.
