Garbage collection

Garbage collection (GC) is a memory management technique: a feature that frees the regions of memory a program dynamically allocated that are no longer needed. In Korean it is also called gabiji keolleksyeon, a direct reading of the English term. It was developed by John McCarthy around 1959 to solve problems in Lisp.
