GLONASS (Russian: ГЛОНАСС) is Russia's global navigation satellite system. It was developed by the Soviet Union and is currently operated by the Russian Space Forces.

Development of GLONASS began in 1976, with the goal of worldwide service by 1991. It was completed with numerous rocket launches from October 12, 1982 to 1995. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the project suffered setbacks due to Russia's economic difficulties. Since 2001, Russia has been restoring the project in a joint venture with the Indian government; it was restored with the goal of worldwide service by 2009, covered the entire territory of Russia in 2010, and began worldwide service in October 2011.

GPS uses CDMA, but GLONASS uses FDMA. The L1 frequency is 1602MHz and the L2 frequency is 1246MHz.
