Fintech (FinTech or Financial Technology), a blend of finance (Finance) and technology (Technology), is a collective term for changes in financial services and the industry driven by advanced information technologies such as mobile, big data, and social media. It is the convergence of finance and IT, such as mobile payments, remittances, asset management, and crowdfunding. A typical example is technology-based service innovation that uses new IT to provide financial services different from traditional financial methods; recent examples include mobile banking and app cards. As a change in the industry, innovative non-financial companies use the technology they own to provide financial services such as payments directly to users; examples include Apple Pay and Alipay.
