FIDO (English: Fast IDentity Online) is a user authentication framework proposed by the FIDO Alliance to solve the problems of passwords. Its core idea is to separate the authentication method from the authentication protocol used to exchange that authentication information. The FIDO Specification consists of the Universal Authentication Framework (UAF) protocol for passwordless authentication and the Universal 2nd Factor (U2F) protocol for authentication that supplements passwords. It is mainly used to apply biometric authentication such as fingerprint and iris.
