Euler's identity appears in Leonhard Euler's book 《Introduction》, published in 1768, and the formula is as follows.
\[ e^{i \pi} = -1 \,\! \]
It is also written in the following form, with the intent of showing 0 and 1.
\[ e^{i \pi} + 1 = 0, \,\! \]
where
- \(e\,\!\) is the base of the natural logarithm,
- \(i\,\!\) is the imaginary unit,
- \(\pi\,\!\) is pi.
Richard Feynman called this formula "the most remarkable formula in mathematics". This is because it contains the five most important constants and four operations in mathematics.
