Ethereum is a platform for blockchains run by a Swiss nonprofit foundation, and the people who started the project are also in charge of managing it. That does not mean companies do not support or sponsor Ethereum. However, unlike Hyperledger, an extremely enterprise-friendly competing technology, Ethereum solves problems and supports developers like an open-source project. Blockchain is a reality, and Ethereum is a tool that can be a starting point for using blockchain. It provides a decentralized computing platform with scripting support, a decentralized virtual machine, a cryptocurrency, and other tools and technologies.
