Facebook's AI-powered audio compression technology

Features

• Code released together with the paper "High Fidelity Neural Audio Compression"
• Uses neural networks to minimize the amount of data transferred so that audio can be shared easily over the internet
  • Achieves about 10x the compression ratio of MP3 at 64Kbps
  • Technology at this level had already been developed for speech, but this is the first for 48kHz (CD quality), the standard for music distribution
• Does not support video yet, but is the start of an initiative for video conferencing, movie streaming, VR, etc.
